ICON for Corporations

CBEN welcomes companies as partners through its membership programs. Such programs are common at NSF-sponsored research centers and CBEN is actively encouraged to seek out these mutually beneficial relationships by our government sponsors.

Basic membership in CBEN/ICON

The basic membership in CBEN/ICON covers a wide range of interactions and includes such benefits as membership on CBEN’s industrial affiliates board, CBEN’s internal newsletter, and visits by CBEN staff. A sliding scale is provided for companies of small size, and in some cases in-kind donations of equipment, materials or staff time can be used as a partial contribution to this fee. A bulleted list of membership benefits is listed here.

Sponsorship and partnership programs to fit company’s interests

CBEN’s members also have the option to expand their interactions through an additional fee which they can target towards deliverables most relevant to their corporate interests.

Research collaborators can direct their contribution towards a research project or area of most interest to the company; these extra resources can support collaborative interactions or enhance their ability to commercialize CBEN technologies. Research Collaborators also have access to CBEN’s growing intellectual property base—with advance notification of patents and preference in negotiating licensing agreements— as well as input in center management through membership on the external advisory board.

ICON founding sponsors have the opportunity to direct their corporate contribution towards the development of an international organization for nanotechnology stewardship known as ICON. ICON is a global partnership of academic, government, industrial and activist members who share an interest in nanotechnology stewardship. ICON support enables activities such as an international nomenclature and terminology committee for nanomaterials and web resource development for science journalists. A bulleted list of membership benefits is  here.
